Your Check-ins now available on your Facebook Timeline

22 May

Here is a story that those who spend most of their time to share their location on Foursquare are going to like. Yes, I am referring to the “check-in” addicts and those who never miss an opportunity to share all their trips with their friends. Indeed, now, all check-ins on Foursquare and then shared on Facebook will appear on the map of your timeline, which therefore means that it’s even easier to keep a virtual track of you friends.

The operation is quite simple. You install Foursquare on your mobile (if it is not done already), you connect your Facebook account and that’s it! When you check-in and decide to share it on the famous social network, your location will be automatically added to your timeline’s map. It’s instantaneous. Your friends will then only have to look on your profile to know all the places that influence your life. Very convenient, but be careful with who you share this type of information.

Other thing: this feature is totally retroactive. This therefore means that all your past check-ins will be retrieved and displayed on your facebook map. It’s pretty cool for the fans of geo-tagging but that’s not something I would do. I think that Foursquare is designed to be used between a circle of close friends, which you are confortable sharing with. Not your 400+ facebook friends.

What do you think? Is it something that could bother you or are you going to share your check-ins with your facebook friends?

Foursquare new history page launched

9 May

Foursquare launched last weekend a brand new feature on its website that allows you to view your check-ins history. Thus, this feature provides a list of past check-ins from the user. In addition, they can be filtered by month or by year, type of place, neighborhood, city, country, or even according to those who also made a check-in at a given location. You can click on each check-in so you will be redirected to an informative page of that place. The pages include saving photos, comments on the site, a list of friends who also made a check-in at that location, and a Google map showing where was done the check-in.

The statement came on the blog of Foursquare along with the announcement that many other features will be added soon to Foursquare. The history page will soon be having new features such as filtering on specific locations, the adding of advices and also the possibility to create lists.

In addition, Foursquare indicates that users that made a wrong check-in, or an accidental one, can now delete them. To do this, simply click on the arrow next to each check-in in the history list. Thus, you will be able to manage all your check-ins as you wish them to appear.

In my case my history is rather empty … Indeed, I use Foursquare for only a month now and the check-ins are mainly within the UCR.

What do you think of these innovations? Will you alter your history to make it more exciting? Or do you think it would be the death of the service because everyone will be free to adjust its history as it pleases?
